Programs and Services

Ensuring every child has a healthy life starts with prioritizing their mental well-being from the very beginning. Our integrated behavioral health services provide comprehensive support, from prevention to crisis intervention for families. Additionally, we are committed to training others in our model, expanding our impact on children’s lives throughout the Greater Cincinnati community.

Prevention

Embedding integrated behavioral health programs into pediatric primary care connects families with a behavioral health specialist early in the child’s life. Our specialists provide education, guidance, and the support to identify emerging mental health concerns. These specialists empower parents with the skills and knowledge to create nurturing, responsive, and stimulating environments—essential for a child’s healthy development and long-term well-being.

Consultation

When a pediatrician identifies an emotional or developmental concern, or a child has a positive screening, our integrated behavioral health providers are ready to assess their needs and recommend the best course of action. Being embedded in the primary care office allows our specialists to provide in-the-moment consultation and immediate support for mental health crises or emergencies.

Intervention

When an emotional or developmental concern arises, our integrated behavioral health specialists offer therapy within the primary care office or via telehealth, ensuring accessible and timely support. Specialists work with families to create personalized intervention plans, actively involving caregivers to model and reinforce effective strategies. By using a measurement-based care approach, we track patient and caregiver-reported outcomes at every visit, leading to faster progress and a significant reduction in impairment caused by mental health concerns.

Crisis Intervention

During a mental health crisis, patients and families often turn to their primary care office for support. Our integrated behavioral health specialists can triage patients and provide on-the-spot stabilization or follow-up interventions, helping to prevent unnecessary emergency department referrals or visits. By offering crisis support in a familiar and trusted environment, we ensure that families receive timely, compassionate care when they need it most.

Behavioral Escalation Response Team (BERT)

Patient or caregiver behavioral escalations can cause disruption and dysfunction within the healthcare system. The Behavior Escalation Response Team (BERT) protocol improves identification, assessment, and management of these situations by implementing effective de-escalation and intervention strategies within pediatric primary care settings. By promoting a structured, proactive approach, the BERT protocol fosters a more predictable and stable environment for patients, caregivers, and providers, ensuring a safer and more supportive healthcare experience for all.
