CCGD Basic Research Director
Dr. Vivian Hwa received her PhD degree in microbiology at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Her subsequent switch to endocrinology led to the seminal identification of the first human mutation in the STAT5B gene, launching a deep interest in the molecular and functional basis of severely short statured children who were unresponsive to growth hormone, garnering cases and collaborators from all over the world. Dr Hwa’s group has published extensively, and she recently joined Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to head the Basic Research unit of the Cincinnati Center for Growth Disorders.
