The Hereditary Cancer Program provides specialized consultation for adults who have or may be at increased risk for hereditary cancer. Our team assesses your risk, offers genetic counseling and testing when appropriate, and develops personalized recommendations to help you and your healthcare providers make informed decisions about your care.
We see adults who have been diagnosed with cancer, have a known cancer predisposition syndrome, or may be at increased risk because of their personal or family history.
Hereditary Cancer Risk Assessment
Understanding your risk starts with looking at your personal and family health history. Our team evaluates this information to determine whether you may have an inherited condition that increases your risk of developing certain cancers.

Genetic Counseling and Testing
Genetic testing can help identify inherited changes that may increase your risk for certain types of cancer. Our genetic counselors help you understand what testing can and cannot tell you, determine which testing may be appropriate and explain what your results mean for you and your family.
When a hereditary cancer condition is identified, we can also help you understand whether other family members may benefit from genetic counseling or testing.
Personalized Recommendations for Your Care
Your hereditary cancer risk can affect when and how often you should be screened for certain cancers and whether additional steps should be considered to reduce your risk.
Based on your individual risk, our team develops personalized recommendations for cancer screening, prevention and ongoing monitoring. We work with you and your healthcare providers to help incorporate these recommendations into your care.

Cincinnati Children's also offers specialized care for children and young adults who have or may have a cancer predisposition syndrome through our Cancer Predisposition Program.
