Types of Transport

A Transportation Fleet You Can Count On

When it comes to medical transport, you not only need trained staff but also reliable transportation and equipment. We have access to a comprehensive fleet of ground vehicles, planes, and helicopters, which are kept in top shape – and ready to go when needed.

All vehicles are outfitted with specific equipment to provide high-quality care to neontal and pediatric patients on the go.

Ambulances

We own and operate 10 child-friendly mobile intensive care ground units. Our vehicles range in size with our biggest being our 35-feet-long citical care ambulances, which have the equipment we need to transport critically ill patients. Our ambulances are based at the Burnet and Liberty campuses, allowing for swift access across the region.

Mental and Behavioral Health Transport

We have specialized teams dedicated to the safe transport of patients with mental and behavioral health needs. These teams are highly skilled and trained to care for this patient population. We know that children with mental health needs do not always benefit from being transported in a traditional ambulance.

Cincinnati Children's Safe Car program includes two transit vans and one SUV. These vehicles are equipped with safety features to safely transport mental and behavioral health patients, and they are staffed by a behavioral health specialist and driver.

All flights are staffed by Cincinnati Children's neonatal and pediatric experts, ensuring high-level care begins immediately upon transport. The team includes a critical care nurse, respiratory therapist, and pilot. In addition, the helicopter is equipped with the right-sized, child-specific medical equipment.

Planes

We use specially configured turbojet and Lear jet aircrafts when needed. They help us serve patients across the United States and internationally.
