Engage in a Wide Variety of Clinical Research and Training Experiences
We appreciate your interest in the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s. Built on a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical education and innovative research, our fellowship is designed to prepare trainees for successful careers in academic medicine as exceptional clinicians, researchers and educators.
While we strive to give all fellows foundational training to be successful in academic medicine, we recognize that few pediatric subspecialties have as many career options as Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and our fellows go on to successful careers in a wide range of pathways.
For applicants who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, Cincinnati Children’s also sponsors both J-1 and H-1B visas.
Cincinnati Children's Infectious Disease Training Program
Established in 1982, our training program was granted accreditation by the American Board of Pediatrics, Subspecialty Board of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and the ACGME in 1998, the first-year accreditation was granted for this subspecialty. The program has maintained accreditation from the ACGME ever since. Our three-year training program is available for individuals who have completed approved general pediatrics or internal medicine/pediatrics residency training.
In 2022, we established an NIH/NIAID-supported T32 training program for fellows in Pediatric Infectious Diseases to facilitate the successful development of independent investigators. Our program offers a wide variety of both clinical and research experiences. During their training, fellows often pursue additional coursework including Masters of Public Health, Masters of Epidemiology/Biostatistics, Masters of Clinical and Translational Research as well as higher degree courses in Education or Quality Improvement. Our training program emphasizes collaboration both within Cincinnati Children’s as well as with external collaborators.
In addition to the opportunities below, combined fellowships can also be considered including Medicine / Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases / Informatics, Infectious Diseases / Hospital Medicine as well as other combinations.
- Infectious Diseases at The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
- Clinical Informatics Fellowship
- Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship
Fellow-to-faculty transition
We are committed to supporting fellow-to-faculty transition and Cincinnati Children's has several mechanisms to support this (KL2, K12, Proctor endowment). Recently, the Division of Infectious Diseases has also invested in a formalized program to support and mentor exceptional fellow and junior faculty candidates with robust start-up support for 3-years, protected time for research, structured milestones, grant-development support and coordinated scientific guidance.
