Mental Health Music Therapy Internship

Internship Overview

Interns in the mental health music therapy internship work at our College Hill campus. They provide services to youth admitted to the inpatient and residential programs in the Division of Psychiatry.

For a more detailed description of the internship, please view our Mental Health Internship Fact Sheet.

What Makes Our Internship Unique?

Cincinnati Children’s has the largest hospital-operated pediatric behavioral and mental health facility in the country. We are the only children’s hospital in the country to have a dedicated residential treatment program.

This means that our interns have access to all the resources of a hospital, while being fully immersed in a mental health setting. Interns are part of a robust treatment team which includes physicians, nurses, psychologists, behavioral health specialists and consultants, social workers, dieticians, occupational therapists, speech therapists, art therapists, therapeutic recreation specialists, child life specialists, and chaplains.

Interns also have access to an array of educational experiences, including Hospital Grand Rounds, Psychiatry Grand Rounds, Schwartz Rounds, and observing and co-treating with other disciplines.

Requirements for Interns

The requirements in this section are listed for reference. They are not part of the application process and will only be required if a student is selected for the internship.

  • A legal affiliation agreement between the intern’s university and Cincinnati Children's. This will be handled by personnel at the hospital and the legal department of the university. Interns will not be allowed to start their internship until this agreement is complete. Please note: Depending upon university policies, a drug screen may be part of the affiliation process.
  • Liability Insurance (if not provided by intern’s university)
  • TB testing
  • Hospital-mandated vaccinations
  • Fingerprinting/background check
  • Official transcripts (if applicant opts to submit unofficial transcripts during the application process)
