What is a Frenotomy?

A frenotomy is a procedure to clip the thin piece of tissue that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth or gum. A frenotomy can be used to treat infants and children who are tongue-tied.

It is a quick procedure and causes minimal discomfort to the infant.

The specialists of the Cincinnati Children’s Department of Otolaryngology / Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) perform frenotomies. Families who wish to have their infant or older child evaluated for a tongue-tie should call 513-636-4355 for an appointment.
