Tuesday, April 23, 2024

Cincinnati Children’s has again been named one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity by Forbes.

Of the 500 companies recognized by Forbes for 2024, Cincinnati Children’s ranked No. 60 across all industries and was the nation’s second-highest rated health system for diversity.

Cincinnati Children’s has been recognized as one of America’s Best Employers for Diversity for seven years in a row – ever since the first such ranking by Forbes.

“The diversity of our more than 19,000 employees is one of the great strengths of Cincinnati Children’s,” said Peter Adebi, senior vice president and chief Human Resources and Diversity officer. “Our workforce reflects the patients and families we serve, including those who travel from across the nation or around the world for treatment of complex or rare disorders. We want all who rely on Cincinnati Children’s for care – as well as all who build a career here – to feel welcome, safe, valued and respected.”

Each year, Cincinnati Children’s has over 1.6 million patient encounters, including local kids as well as children from all 50 states and dozens of countries.

A total of 128 countries are represented among Cincinnati Children’s workforce, including over 1,500 employees born outside the United States.

“Our vibrant culture makes Cincinnati Children’s a place where extraordinary people want to work, and this commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion strengthens not only the care provided to patients and families but also our research and educational missions,” said Bobby Rodriguez, vice president for Diversity, Inclusion & Community Relations.

Forbes said April 23 that the latest ranking was based on a survey of over 170,000 U.S.-based employees of companies with at least 1,000 people as well as an evaluation of diversity-related best practices, including the share of women in board and executive positions.

Rodriguez highlighted key accomplishments in diversity at Cincinnati Children’s:

  • Women constitute 79% of all employees at Cincinnati Children’s, including more than half of the physicians.
  • Executive Team diversity includes 63% women and 27% people of color.
  • Over half of executive and senior managers are women, along with 73% of first or mid-level managers.
  • Half of the members of the Board of Trustees are women, including chair Liza Smitherman.
  • About 24% of the employees of Cincinnati Children’s are people of color, and so are one out of four physicians.
