Leapfrog names Cincinnati Children’s a top hospital

Staff Bulletin.Cincinnati Children’s is one of nine pediatric hospitals to earn recognition as a Top Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. The award honors hospitals across the country for excellence in quality of care and patient safety.

More than 1,800 hospitals report safety and quality information to The Leapfrog Group. The national nonprofit collects and transparently reports hospital performance to empower individuals to make informed decisions and find the highest-value care.

Only 6 percent of hospitals that report (or 115 hospitals) received the Top Hospital designation this year. The list includes:

  • 9 children’s hospitals
  • 106 adult hospitals  (56 general, 21 rural, 29 teaching)

The selection of Top Hospitals is based on the results of the 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Survey and is based on calendar year 2015 performance. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered, including infection rates, the use of computer physician order entry, bar code medication administration, and best practices and policies to keep patients safe.
