CPS update

The Cincinnati Pediatric Society penned a letter to the editor that was published in the Cincinnati Enquirer on March 14, supporting students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL –the site of a mass shooting in February. Signed by current CPS president Paul Bunch, MD, and Drs. Camille Graham, Ernie Ciambarella, Kate McGovern Driscoll, Nick DeBlasio, Chris Peltier and Meredith Frost, the letter expressed solidarity with all students who participated in the National School Walkout and March for Our Lives, which called for Congress to pass tighter gun control laws. The letter, in part, stated:

“We have been impressed with the students’ poise and courage as they work through their grief. They are informing the country of the immediate trauma as well as the post-traumatic stress borne by survivors. They are using their collective voice to effect change in a peaceful manner. They are employing the democratic process to influence policymakers and to change laws.

“Now is the time to listen to them. Now is the time to help them process their grief. Now is the time to support them as they develop solutions.”
