William Schubert, MD, still inspires as a teacher and philanthropist
In a career spanning nearly 50 years at Cincinnati Children’s, William K. Schubert, MD, dedicated his life to improving the health of children in our community and around the world. Throughout his career, he gave generously to support the work of the institution he loved.
To honor Schubert’s philanthropic legacy, Cincinnati Children’s established a giving society in his name to celebrate current and former employees who give $1,000 or more annually.
For Stephen Muething, MD, Chief Quality Officer, being a member of the Schubert Society means both investing in a mission of child health that he believes in and honoring his friendship with Schubert.
“When I think about Dr. Schubert, I think of someone who’s really at the heart and core of who we are at Cincinnati Children’s,” Muething said, smiling. “His vision and passion for the hospital embody everything that makes us the remarkable institution that we are today. He is the bridge between the history of Cincinnati Children’s and the future.”
Current and former employees have a unique, insider’s view of how the work we do directly impacts the lives of the children who come to us for care. For some, that’s what inspires them to give back to the medical center. For others, like Muething, it’s about keeping Schubert’s legacy of compassion and community thriving within Cincinnati Children’s.
“He constantly reminded me that I was blessed. I was given a good education and so many opportunities,” Muething recalled. “He taught me that our job as members of the Cincinnati Children’s community is to continually make this place better. I think that’s what we can all do together as members of the Schubert Society.”
As a nonprofit hospital and research center, Cincinnati Children’s depends on philanthropic support to continue making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families.
