Alumni Weekend sets record for attendance
The 2019 Alumni Weekend was packed with a wide variety of activities, starting on Friday, April 5, with the Ohio AAP Spring Educational Meeting, a collaborative effort of the Cincinnati Pediatric Society and the Ohio AAP. Participants learned how to enhance their ability to prevent childhood abuse and injuries and got the latest update on this issue from Ohio AAP advocacy experts and local legislators.
Later that evening, 213 guests (a record!) gathered at the Hilton Netherland Plaza’s Hall of Mirrors for the Medical Staff and Alumni Dinner. The celebration featured a festive happy hour, followed by an elegant dinner and a lively program by Tom DeWitt, MD, and Christy White, MD.
The classes of 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014 celebrated milestone anniversaries with shared remembrances of their experiences during residency.
New this year were reserved tables for medical staff divisions or subspecialties. These included Emergency Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Pediatric Primary Care; General and Community Pediatrics; Anesthesia/Pain Management; the Neuromuscular Center, and the Pancreas Center. Joining them were many other members of the medical staff representing a wide variety of specialties and alumni from across the nation.
The fun continued on Saturday, April 6, with Derek Wheeler, MD, Chief of Staff, leading guests on a tour of the new buildings on Cincinnati Children’s campus, as well as old haunts.
Afterward, the Flavors of the Queen City provided a food tour through five local restaurants. Guests learned about Cincinnati’s history, while riding the Cincinnati Bell Connector.
