Hospital Medicine Research

Hospital Medicine is the fastest growing specialty in pediatrics. The Division of Hospital Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s is uniquely positioned to lead changes in pediatric inpatient health care delivery because our clinical practice spans multiple domains within the hospital, medical home, and community. Our physician-scientists drive innovation and examine the impact of these innovations on health systems and the patient populations that use them. Major areas of scholarly focus for the division faculty include:

  • Informing patient, family, and physician decisions by providing evidence of the effectiveness, benefits, and harms of different treatment options. Areas of study range from medical conditions such as asthma, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia to surgical conditions such as congenital heart disease.
  • Understanding how families get access to health care services, how much care costs, and what happens to patients and families as a result of this care.
  • Identifying the best ways to integrate research findings into healthcare policy and clinical practice.

Investigators from our division have also played an integral role developing research networks that have improved the quality of pediatric research nationally. Our faculty members receive research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and several national foundations.
