Clinical Research Coordinator IV
I am a clinical research coordinator IV in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR. I received my master’s degree in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2016 and my bachelor’s degree in biotechnology engineering from Sir MVIT, India in 2014. I enjoy car racing, STEM Mentoring, swimming, traveling and cooking.
Chamindu Gunatilaka, PhD
I am a research fellow in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR. I received my PhD in physics from the University of Cincinnati in May 2021. My current research investigates breathing energy and drug delivery in neonates using ultrashort echo-time (UTE) MRI and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Besides research, I enjoy photography and playing cricket.
Nara Higano, PhD
I am a research assistant in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the CPIR. I received my master's in medical physics from the University of Glasgow in December 2020. I assist in the cardiovascular morphology, phase imaging analysis and image segmentation in neonates with BPD. I also enjoy sports, such as basketball and baseball, music and competitions.
Research Assistant III
I am a research assistant III in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR at Cincinnati Children's. I received both my master's (2021) and bachelor's degrees in physics at the University of Cincinnati. While I studied condensed matter subjects at UC, I have begun applying my physics PhD (in progress) and expertise to the growing hyperpolarized xenon enhanced magnetic resonance imaging modality. Further specification of my research focus is forthcoming. I am a proud father of one who also enjoys chess and reading.
I am the program manager for the CPIR. I have my bachelor's in biology and my master's in Medical Education. I have worked at Cincinnati Children's for over two decades in various capacities, including basic research, clinical research, medical device studies, quality/ performance improvement, project management and program management. Outside of work, I enjoy being active outdoors, cooking and home improvement projects.
Research Nurse II
I am a research nurse II in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR. I received my BS in nursing from the University of Cincinnati in May 1999. I am a licensed RN in the state of Ohio. I completed my masters in public health from Benedictine University in December 2011. Besides patient care and research, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my four children.
Ike West, PhD
I am a research fellow in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR. I received my PhD in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in June 2021. My current research focuses on developing computer vision/AI-enabled tools for streamlining hyperpolarized xenon MR image analysis. Outside the lab, I enjoy hanging out with my cat, running, kayaking and video games.
I am a research associate in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine and CPIR. I also received my PhD in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in May 2017. My current research focuses on implementation of MRI acquisitions for cardio-pulmonary structure and function as well as image reconstruction and analysis. Additionally, I am tasked with keeping the MR capabilities of the center up to date through system upgrades for all MR scanners. Besides research, I enjoy video/board games, music/concerts and programming.
