Why Choose Cincinnati Children’s

Personal, One-on-One Support

We know how stressful a diagnosis can be, that’s why you and your child are supported by our dedicated nurse coordinator every step of the way.

Our coordinator is a personal resource for your family from the moment you first contact our team to every post-surgery follow up appointment and conversation. She’s a surgical nurse and available to answer any questions you may have — no concern is too big or too small.

The nurse coordinator will also make sure you have a seamless treatment experience. She’ll help schedule all clinic visits, tests, surgeries and follow-up care, so you don’t have to worry about managing different specialist schedules.

Co-Surgeon Clinic

To develop the best treatment plan for your child, you will meet with both our plastic surgeon and neurosurgeon at one in-person clinic appointment.

With both surgeons working together at the same time, we can communicate clearly and come to a faster, more complete treatment decisions. You will also be able to ask questions and share concerns with both surgeons at the same time. By the end of your visit, the surgeons will provide a clear treatment plan for your child.

Experts in Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP)

We use Virtual surgical planning (VSP), the latest 3D imaging technology to provide a more precise diagnosis and treatment for your child. VSP allows us to determine the best surgical option and better prepare for surgery. Ultimately, this reduces surgery time and improves your child’s overall recovery. VSP also shows us how your child’s head will look after the procedure.

Cincinnati Children’s was one of the first centers to use VSP for complex and routine craniofacial surgery. Our surgeons are experts in this technology.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Expertise

If your child is eligible for minimally invasive surgery, you can feel confident that Cincinnati Children’s has the expertise to do these procedures safely and successfully. We have a long history of performing minimally invasive (endoscopic) craniosynostosis surgery. Our team also performs these surgeries regularly — approximately half of the procedures we do are minimally invasive.

Multidisciplinary Team of Specialists

Cincinnati Children’s ranked third in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and our team includes many world-class specialists. You will have access to all these specialists under one roof, helping your child recover and thrive after surgery. These specialists can include ophthalmologists and neuro-ophthalmologists, geneticists, neuro-psychologists, critical care doctors, pulmonologists, and ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctors.

A Commitment to Research and Quality Improvement

Our team’s clinical and basic science research program is dedicated to improving treatment for your child and future craniosynostosis patients.

This research will allow us to better track treatment results and connections between craniosynostosis and certain genetic conditions. We’re also building an outcomes registry, which will contribute to future research and clinical trials.
