The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends cystic fibrosis (CF) carrier screening for all couples seeking preconception or prenatal care, not just for those with a personal or family history of carrying the CF gene. Eighty percent of children with CF are born to parents with no history of the disease.
Our nationally recognized genetic diagnostics experts use state-of-the-art equipment and procedures to conduct CF carrier screening. If test results show that one or both parents are gene carriers, our genetic counselors will help them explore all options, allowing them to make informed decisions about family planning.
Our complete screening service offers a number of features:
- Screening for all mutations recommended by the ACOG
- Fast, competitive turnaround
- Faxed results
- A personal call if we identify abnormal findings
- Free local courier service (513-636-4474)
- Genetic counseling available at Cincinnati Children's
The choice to have CF carrier screening is voluntary. Determining factors can include level of risk, family situation, plans and needs, insurance coverage and religious and spiritual beliefs. Call 513-636-4760 for more information about our service.
