If your baby needs advanced medical care or surgery right after birth, you may be able to deliver your child at the Cincinnati Children's Fetal Care Center’s Special Delivery Unit. It’s one of only a few birthing centers in the world located inside a pediatric hospital.

Special Delivery Unit Room

When you give birth at our Special Delivery Unit, your baby is immediately surrounded by the expertise, special equipment and tender care that Cincinnati Children’s is known for. The unit is just down the hall from our Level IV newborn intensive care unit (NICU) and cardiac intensive care unit (CICU). This keeps you close to your newborn and eliminates worries about transporting your tiniest loved one between hospitals.

Not all fetal conditions require delivery in our Special Delivery Unit. Your medical team at the Cincinnati Fetal Care Center will work with you to create a birth plan and recommend delivery locations that may be best for you and your baby.

The Special Delivery Unit has dedicated operating, labor and delivery, and postpartum rooms. Benefits of delivering your baby in our Special Delivery Unit include:

  • Delivery and recovery rooms steps from our NICU and CICU for easy visits with your baby.

Since July 2019, the Special Delivery Unit has completed over 445 deliveries with services provided by TriHealth.
