Jeffrey A. Whitsett Physician Scientist Training Fellowship
An MD and PhD Dual Degree Program
The Jeffrey A. Whitsett Physician Scientist Fellowship supports training in the dual MD and PhD program. Students will earn a medical degree through the Medical Scientist Training Program; MSTP at the University of Cincinnati and a PhD through the Molecular & Developmental Biology (MDB) Graduate Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
One fellowship position is available per year and is awarded to the most competitive applicant who has a declared interest in pediatrics and pediatric research. The goal of this fellowship is to train physician scientists who will become world leaders in research into childhood health and diseases both at the bench and the bedside.
This prestigious fellowship is named after Dr Jeffrey A. Whitsett, a world leader in pediatric research, Co-Director, Perinatal Institute, Chief, Section of Neonatology, Perinatal and Pulmonary Biology, at Cincinnati Children’s and Professor in the University of Cincinnati Department of Pediatrics.
Whitsett fellows meet with Dr Whitsett on a regular basis to receive professional development counseling and career advice. In addition, Whitsett fellows will train at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital one of the top 3 children’s hospitals in the US.

Interested applicants should:
- Apply to the MSTP program at the University of Cincinnati Medical School
- Complete the Fellowship Application for the The Molecular & Developmental Biology (MDB) Graduate Program at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital
Selected applicants will be invited to an all-expenses-paid-interview with both MSTP and MDB programs and the most competitive applicants will meet with Dr Whitsett.
