Preparing for a Long Wait at Urgent Care or Emergency Care

  • Only bring the ill or injured child; arrange care for other children
  • Bring drinks and snacks for your child unless they have a stomach issue
  • Bring a comfort item, such as a blanket or stuffed animal
  • Bring entertainment, like books, coloring, toys or a tablet, to keep your child busy
  • Ensure your child has comfortable clothing and footwear, and bring extra clothes, especially if your child has an upset stomach
  • Diapers and wipes, if needed
  • Pacifier for infants and toddlers
  • Self-care - ideas include: chargers for your devices, water bottle for yourself, sleep mask
  • Any medications you or your child might need during your wait
