Philips Respironics Issues Recall on Respiratory Devices

Cincinnati Children’s was notified of a respiratory device recall that was issued on June 14, 2021, by Philips Respironics. Since then, we have been working alongside the manufacturer to get updates and develop plans for our patients who use these devices.

Philips Respironics is voluntarily recalling specific CPAP and BiLevel PAP machines and mechanical ventilators due to problems related to the polyester-based polyurethane sound abatement foam used in these products.

At this time, Cincinnati Children’s has had no reports of patients becoming ill related to this recall.

What to Do

We recommend that patients work with their physician or durable medical equipment (DME) provider to determine the most appropriate options for continued treatment. Patients should not stop using the machine without the input of their medical team.

What to Expect

Philips has committed to working with healthcare and DME providers to get replacement devices for their patients. The recall is estimated to affect approximately 1,000 Cincinnati Children’s patients.
