John and Cheryl Rogers: Building a legacy at Cincinnati Children’s

Staff Bulletin.Cincinnati Children’s is one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the country. It operates campuses and clinics throughout the Greater Cincinnati region.

All in all, our facilities add up to roughly 8 million square feet.

And John Rogers knows most every inch.

As the corporate architect for Cincinnati Children’s, John is intimately involved in new building and remodeling projects at the medical center. And, before joining Cincinnati Children’s, he spent more than 25 years as a partner at GBBN Architects, the firm that designed many of the newer buildings at the medical center.

“My work has taken me to pediatric hospitals all over the world,” says John. “Cincinnati Children’s is special. I was very proud of this hospital even before I came to work here.”

John may take professional pride in our world-class facilities, but he’s even more impressed by the work that those buildings make possible.

“We serve families when they’re most vulnerable. We do everything we can to make the environment more comfortable and to enable the incredible research and care that takes place here,” he says.

John and his wife, Cheryl, believe so strongly in the mission of Cincinnati Children’s that they decided to include the medical center in their will. The gift is unrestricted, which means it will go to programs with the greatest need.

On a personal level, John and Cheryl have had a long relationship with Cincinnati Children’s. All three of their children—now grown—were patients at one time or another.

“I knew the reputation of Cincinnati Children's long before I had children. I would never have considered taking my children anywhere else,” says Cheryl.

“We give to Cincinnati Children’s so we can have a deeper impact,” says John. “It’s a part of who we are.”

After spending much of his career building Cincinnati Children’s, John is excited to be building a legacy as well.

“This hospital is doing things today that weren’t even on the radar 10 years ago,” he says. “It’s exciting to think that we will support that work.”
