Butsch Kovacic Research Lab
One of the main interests of Dr. Butsch Kovacic’s research group is to improve the understanding of how the environment and nutrition/lifestyle modifies chronic disease risk in vulnerable children and their families. Specifically, research has focused on using epidemiologic approaches to identify genetic, infectious, environmental and molecular biomarkers of childhood asthma and cancer using human biospecimens as well as clinical and epidemiological data. In addition, over the last twelve years Dr. Butsch Kovacic has partnered with local community members and organizations and leveraged community-based participatory research (CBPR)/mixed methods approaches in her programs and studies. As a result, co-creating materials to support community members’ health literacy and engage them in research and citizen science has been a strong focus. Welcoming undergraduate interns is a high priority as well.
