WE4H loves to partner with communities to help residents learn about their local environments’ impact on their health. To support learning, we offer “Climate Clubs” or “Climate Camps” that can be tailored to support learning about research, environmental health, and advocacy. Importantly, participants use a novel tool called the Eyewitness Community Survey (ECS) to make and record observations of their community in an online tool. The resulting data can be used to study their community and learn how to minimize factors that diminish health and maximize factors that improve health. A CCTST Community Health Grant supported a partnership with Keep Norwood Cool to examine heat islands and traffic related air pollution in Norwood. The study led to a large community tree planting event to alleviate issues related to documented heat islands! Once such intern – Barbara Tyler – supported the “Participatory Mapping to Keep Norwood Cool” study done with community members in Norwood, Ohio. Check out Barbara’s documentary about her experience!
