WE4H’s Community Research Advocates also receive a 2-hour training to facilitate an outreach program using the comic-style story “Research Ready” around “research readiness” Importantly, the trained community members hold discussions with the goal of helping other community members to become understand the purpose of health research, know how participants are protected from harm and why people of all backgrounds and walks of life are needed to participate. Importantly, Community Research Advocates can work with WE4H and other researchers to support communication with potential and current research participants. Work with Asthma Research’s M-PAACH team led to 2 stories that are used to explain the purpose of specific elements of their clinical research! A revised “Becoming Research Ready” story has also recently been developed specifically for cancer patients and survivors.
