Cincinnati Children’s Approach to HLH Treatment
A collaborative team of doctors, researchers, nurse managers, social workers and ancillary staff supports the diagnosis and clinical care of HLH patients at Cincinnati Children’s. Our HLH team is part of the Division of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Immune Deficiency. Its director is Stella Davies, MBBS, PhD.
We are never satisfied with the status quo despite our reputation as the most respected destination in North America for HLH treatment. Our vision is to improve care, increase awareness and expand research in the United States and beyond.
The HLH Center of Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s will provide physicians and families with a single resource for complete, family-centered care with the nation’s most respected HLH physicians. This includes from the time of diagnosis through curative treatments such as hematopoietic (blood and marrow) stem cell transplantation and long-term follow-up after transplant.
We plan to increase the number of patients we are able to treat at Cincinnati Children’s by training more physician scientists, providing specialized training for nurses and ancillary staff, and dedicating more physical space to HLH care.
We will continue to share our knowledge and training techniques with other medical centers across the country and around the world. More patients with HLH will be diagnosed and treated earlier and go on to live their best lives.
