Our neurosurgery team is known for its highly collaborative efforts − an important factor in successful treatment. We take a multidisciplinary approach to caring for patients, working with other pediatric specialists at Cincinnati Children’s to establish an accurate diagnosis, develop a treatment plan and provide comprehensive treatment. These specialists include physicians from a variety of disciplines, including neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, interventional radiology, pediatric medicine, critical care medicine, rehabilitation therapy and many others. Each specialist brings his or her own unique perspective and in-depth understanding of the problems associated with complex neurological conditions.
We believe that the best way to care for children is to make the family part of the health care team. Parents and family members are a child’s main source of strength and support, and they are the one constant in the child’s care. That’s why we include families and patients in all aspects of a child’s care at Cincinnati Children’s. Part of this effort involves making sure our physicians spend as much time as necessary with families, answering questions and providing information. Our nurses are just as dedicated to education, and utilize helpful materials to ensure that families are well informed about their child’s care.
As patients approach adulthood, our team helps them prepare for the challenges ahead as they seek independence while managing complex health concerns. We also work with these patients to help them establish a relationship with an adult care provider who is experienced in treating patients with long-term neurological conditions.
Many patients travel from across the country and around the world for the special medical and neurosurgical treatments available at Cincinnati Children’s. We’re pleased that the Ronald McDonald House, one of the largest in the country, is able to provide temporary housing for so many of our children and their families. We offer many resources for families traveling to our facility from outside the region.
