Staff Bulletin.Tom Boat, MD, was selected by the American Pediatric Society to receive the 2018 John Howland Award, the highest honor the organization bestows. Boat is professor of Pediatrics in Pulmonary Medicine, and a past Rachford Chair of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s, as well as dean emeritus of the UC College of Medicine. He has held leadership positions with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Thoracic Society. He served as president of the Society for Pediatric Research; the American Pediatric Society and the American Society of Pediatric Department Chairs. Boat was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine in 2001. Most recently, he co-chaired a National Academies Workshop: Training the Future Child Health Care Workforce to Improve Behavioral Health.

Staff Bulletin.Paul Steele, MD, medical director, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, was named one of the 20 most influential people in the 20-year history of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Allied Health Sciences. Steele has been the medical director of the clinical labs at Cincinnati Children’s since 1999. Before that he worked in Laboratory Medicine at UC Medical Center. He has served on the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program’s advisory board and is an adjunct instructor, teaching students in onsite and online courses. Over the past five years, he has donated his time for more than 70 credit hours of instruction and sat on numerous MLS search committees.
