In memoriam: Sadao Kunimura

Sadao Kunimura, known as “Sid” to his family and friends, passed away on July 4, at the age of 85. The Cincinnati, OH, resident was born on January 15, 1933, in Hilo, Hawaii, the youngest of six children born to Kyosuke and Teiko (Saita) Kunimura.

Kunimura came to work at Cincinnati Children’s in 1954, eventually becoming the chief radiologic technologist.

Said former staff radiologist Robert Kaufman, MD, “Sid was a great guy. I depended on him so much during my time at Cincinnati Children’s. He was very helpful in figuring out new techniques and the technical aspects of radiography and fluoroscopy. And more than that, he was a nice man."

Kunimura later took a position with Philips Medical US, working there until he retired in 1996.

He loved photography, music and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Kunimura is survived by his wife Betty (Miyasato), sons Wayne and Robert, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
