Biobank Oversight

When you enroll in the Discover Together (DT) Biobank, you can trust that your biospecimens (biological samples) are used in an ethical manner. We have governing bodies in place to ensure all samples are used safely, responsibly and for worthy scientific purposes.

Our two main oversight committees are the Biobank Executive Committee and the Biospecimen & Data Access Committee. Committee members—made up of Cincinnati Children’s physicians, researchers and executives—work together to ensure samples are used in a way that is consistent with Cincinnati Children’s policies and is scientifically ethical and relevant.

Biobank Executive Committee

This committee oversees all biobank operations. For example, we appoint members of the Biospecimen & Data Access Committee and provide guidance related to internal and external research collaborations. We also make sure the DT Biobank complies with all regulatory requirements.

Executive committee members are:

Biospecimen & Data Access Committee

This committee’s main job is to ensure biobank samples (and any medical data linked to those samples) are used appropriately. We carefully review each sample or data request to ensure it will be used for credible, well-designed and relevant research.
