The Marsolo lab’s work is focused on finding better ways to use patient data to improve outcomes. We develop methods to characterize the quality and suitability of electronic health record (EHR) data for secondary activities as well as methods to collect and extract research data from the EHR at scale. We design and implement common data models to facilitate distributed research queries. We also develop informatics architectures and standards that can support multi-center learning health systems.

Through this work, we are immersed in the challenges and opportunities that arise in trying to collect and utilize electronic health record data to support clinical care, quality improvement and research activities across a large pediatric medical center as well as across national, multi-institutional projects.
