Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Dr. Shah is a board certified pediatric endocrinologist and clinical lipidologist. Her research interests focus on understanding how adolescent onset obesity and diabetes impact long term health. To understand how atherosclerosis develops, her lab has focused on lipid subspecies and how they are altered in disease states. Dr. Shah has ongoing collaborations with multiple center clinical studies including the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth Study and the Treatment Options for Type 2 Diabetes in Adolescents and Youth (TODAY) study. Dr. Shah treats teens and young adults with endocrine disorders, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. She is the receipt of numerous awards including young investigator awards from The International Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes, The National Lipid Association and The American Society of Clinical Investigation. In her spare time, Dr. Shah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, distance running and reading a good book.
Research Assistant III
Hannah is a native of Cincinnati and received her BS in Biological Sciences from Ohio University. She joined the Shah lab in January 2015 and works on assaying patient samples with functional and descriptive techniques. In her spare time, Hannah sings in a local choir, hikes local trails, and reads good books when she can find them.
Research Assistant IV
Esmond joined the Shah lab in March 2017. He is a University of Cincinnati graduate where he also worked as a postdoctoral fellow. In the lab, Esmond focuses on developing and optimizing quantitative assays that could be used to assess the initial events leading to the development of arteriosclerosis. In his spare time, Esmond plays online soccer games and loves to watch documentaries and comedy movies.
Bliss joined Dr. Shah’s clinical research team in September of 2021. She obtained her PhD in developmental and molecular biology from the University of Cincinnati prior to becoming a clinical research coordinator at CCHMC. In her current role she is managing Endocrinology’s teams of clinical research coordinators in addition to helping with the clinical implementation of innovative research projects. In her spare time Bliss enjoys gardening and home improvement projects.
Clinical Research Coordinator
Arjun recently joined Dr. Shah’s clinical research team in August 2021. He is a native of Cincinnati and received his bachelor of arts in public health from Johns Hopkins University and a master of science in physiology from the University of Cincinnati. Arjun is passionate about how the social determinants of health affect pediatric diabetic care and enjoys interacting with patients and their families. In his spare time, Arjun enjoys being active and playing sports, and eating his way through Cincinnati’s burgeoning food scene.
Jenni joined Dr. Shah’s Research team in January of 2021. She is a native of Cincinnati and is attending Thomas More University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in business administration. As a CRC, Jenni is involved with the regulatory documents, recruiting, and study visits with the subjects enrolled. In addition, Jenni enjoys catching an FC Cincinnati game, attending live music events, and traveling in her spare time.
