Miethke Lab

Miethke Research Lab

The mission of the Miethke research lab is to develop better therapies for cholestatic and inflammatory liver diseases affecting infants, children, and young adults. Liver transplantation remains the only treatment for many patients with biliary atresia (BA), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), or autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) to prolong survival. Incomplete understanding of the processes controlling bile duct injury and progressive liver fibrosis hamper our ability to find cures for these conditions.

Our Focus

In the Miethke lab, we focus on the following diseases:

  • Biliary atresia (BA)
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)
  • Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH)
  • Progressive familial cholestasis
  • Alagille syndrome

Our Projects

Our current projects are divided into four categories:

  • Disease mechanisms
  • Novel therapeutics
  • Biomarkers
  • Research networks
