Referrals and Consultations
The Pediatric Liver Care Center participates in Physician Priority Link®, a 24-hour consultation and collaboration hotline at Cincinnati Children’s. Our on-call liver subspecialists are available within two minutes of contacting us. For non-urgent appointments, ask for extension 3-1791 and ask to talk to a liver nurse specialist.
Expert Interpretation of Liver-Related Genetic Tests
We support clinicians caring for patients with presumed or suspected genetic-based liver diseases in children or adults. Our team in the Undiagnosed and Rare Liver Disease Center offers expert interpretation of genetic testing results. We will collaboratively review your questions and contact you to discuss.
We are specifically interested in investigating liver disease with unknown etiology presenting in any of the following phenotypes:
- cholestasis
- acute liver failure
- extrahepatic manifestations suggesting genetic disorders
- clinically significant portal hypertension
- familial inheritance pattern
- pregnancy-related cholestasis
- complicated gallstone disease (intrahepatic) or childhood onset gallstones
- steatohepatitis with normal BMI and/or pruritus

Facilities
The Pediatric Liver Care Center is committed to providing pediatric liver patients with a facility that incorporates the latest technological advances in a nurturing, family-friendly environment. Our inpatient facility offers the following features:
- Eleven beds dedicated to patients with complex liver disease, including liver transplant patients
- A “transition to home” room where families stay in a home-like setting to become familiar with the care delivery required at home
- Workspace for laptop computers
- Microwave ovens, washers and dryers
- Showers and pullout beds for parents
- A separate treatment room for inpatient care procedures
