  • Innate immunity, inflammation and myeloid-cell biology
    This is the broadest program-wide concentration, encompassing inflammatory signaling, macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells, innate immune sensing, autoinflammation, fibrosis and immune-mediated tissue injury.

  • Adaptive immunity, immune regulation and tolerance
    This includes T- and B-cell biology, immune memory and exhaustion, autoimmunity, regulatory immune mechanisms, transplant tolerance and maternal–fetal tolerance.

  • Hematopoiesis, immune-cell development and blood disorders
    The program has substantial depth in hematopoietic stem cells, bone-marrow biology, myeloid and lymphoid development, nonmalignant blood disease, myelodysplasia and leukemia.

  • Immunogenomics, epigenetics and systems immunology
    Multiple laboratories study immune gene regulation using functional genomics, single-cell and spatial approaches, computational modeling, immune-receptor repertoires, multi-omics and artificial intelligence.

  • Mucosal and barrier immunity, allergy and asthma
    This captures the major concentration in epithelial–immune interactions across the gut, lung, liver and skin, including allergic inflammation, food allergy, eosinophilic disease, asthma and inflammatory bowel disease.

  • Infection, host–microbe interactions and vaccines
    Laboratories examine antiviral and antibacterial immunity, immune responses to acute and chronic infection, microbiome–immune interactions, protective immunity, vaccination and newborn host defense.

  • Cancer immunology and immunotherapy
    Research includes antitumor T-cell and NK-cell responses, macrophage and myeloid regulation of tumors, tumor immune suppression, immune-target discovery and development of immune-based therapies.

  • Maternal–fetal, neonatal and early-life immunity
    A distinctive multi-laboratory strength addresses pregnancy, placental tolerance, fetal and neonatal immune development, early-life inflammation, infection and host defense.
