Sarah E. Henson, MD

I’m a cardiologist specializing in pediatric preventive cardiology at Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute. I believe in meeting patients and families where they are in life. Cardiovascular disease takes decades to occur; however, the process begins in childhood. The good news is that early prevention in children can lead to better chances of reversing the disease. I want to work with children to improve lifestyles and be a support system for families.

I was drawn to medicine by my desire to care for others and a fascination with the science of the human body. In medical school, I gravitated toward pediatric patients because of the diversity of disease processes and patient interactions. I was introduced to pediatric cardiology during my residency and found cardiac pathophysiology intriguing. As I progressed through my fellowship, I found personal fulfillment in outpatient medicine. While I enjoy working with congenital cardiac disease patients, I found a particular interest in preventing cardiac disease before it starts.

Research is vital to understanding the complex physiology of cardiovascular risk factors in pediatric patients and improving clinical care related to these risk factors. My work in this field aids my clinical services and my ability to provide evidence-based interventions.

When I’m not working, I like exploring Cincinnati with my family. I enjoy cooking and baking. I also love being outdoors, whether running, walking or going to the zoo with my kids.
